In a concerted effort to bolster Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education from kindergarten to high school, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Sekolah Tinggi Analis Bakti Asih, and Universiti Sangga Buana, Indonesia, have come together in a pioneering University Social Responsibility (USR) initiative. This program, facilitated by eight dedicated faculty members from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology at UniMAP, aims to utilize the resources and expertise of higher education to benefit the broader community.
Objectives of the USR STEM Education Program:
1. Enhance STEM education at all levels, from kindergarten to high school.
2. Develop a sustainable and engaging STEM curriculum.
3. Foster a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation among students.
4. Bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.
5. Promote collaboration between educational institutions and improve resource sharing.
The program introduces basic STEM concepts through interactive and playful methods such as storytelling, simple experiments, hands-on activities, advanced STEM coursework, and educational games. These activities are designed to be both educational and engaging, ensuring that students develop a strong foundation in STEM disciplines.
The USR initiative, involving Sekolah Tinggi Analis Bakti Asih, Universiti Sangga Buana, and UniMAP, has shown promising results in enhancing STEM literacy and engagement among students. Through collaborative efforts, innovative curriculum development, and dedicated facilitation, this program is poised to make a lasting impact on the educational landscape and community development.
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all facilitators and collaborating institutions for their commitment and hard work in making this initiative a success.
