The Polymer Engineering Program from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), conducted an industrial visit to Ada Biotech Sdn. Bhd. located in the Mak Mandin Industrial Area, Butterworth, Penang.
The visit included 23 third-year students enrolled in the Mass and Heat Transfer for Polymer Engineering course, led by Ts. Dr. Sinar Arzuria, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norsuria, and Mr. Ismail. They were accompanied by four fourth-year students, two postgraduate students, and four lecturers.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe the production of biodegradable drinking straws made from 100% plant-based materials. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into the operations of sustainable manufacturing processes.
The visit aimed to expose students to the importance of environmental conservation by replacing single-use plastic straws with biodegradable alternatives, thereby reducing plastic waste pollution.
Such industry visits are instrumental in enriching the educational experience by bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable engineering practices.
