The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), continues to strengthen its international research network through a research attachment undertaken by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Sharizan Md Sarip at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), United Kingdom. The visit was supported by a prestigious grant awarded by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK.
The attachment focused on collaborative research related to the sustainable extraction of plant-based proteins from rice bran, an abundant agricultural by-product in rice-producing regions such as Perlis. The project explores the application of Green Chemistry approaches, particularly Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES), to develop environmentally friendly processes for producing high-value protein ingredients with potential applications in the food and nutraceutical industries.
During the visit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Sharizan Md Sarip engaged in knowledge-sharing activities with researchers at QUB and explored opportunities for future collaboration in sustainable biomass utilisation, circular economy initiatives, and green processing technologies. The engagement also provided access to advanced research facilities and expertise in chemistry and chemical engineering.
This collaboration reflects FKTK’s commitment to advancing internationally recognised research and building strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide, further enhancing UniMAP’s global research visibility and impact.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), successfully organised the OSH Career Talk and TikTok Safety 2026 Programme in collaboration with PERKESO and NRG-SHE, attracting the participation of more than 35 students from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The programme, fully sponsored by PERKESO through NRG-SHE, marked the first initiative of its kind held at FKTK, providing students with valuable exposure to career opportunities in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
Throughout the programme, participants gained insights into industrial career pathways, the importance of workplace safety culture, and the growing demand for professionals in safety and health-related fields.
Adding a creative and interactive dimension to the event, students also participated in the TikTok Safety Challenge, where safety awareness messages were delivered through engaging digital content and social media creativity.
The programme reflects FKTK’s continuous commitment to enhancing industry awareness, career readiness, and safety culture among students while encouraging innovative approaches in learning and engagement.
FKTK extends its appreciation to all collaborating parties for their contributions in ensuring the success of the programme and hopes similar initiatives can continue to benefit students in the future.

The annual Splash Run 3.0, organised by the Student Association of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), was successfully held with the participation of approximately 400 students and members of the UniMAP community.
The 5-kilometre fun run began at the Kolej Kediaman Tan Sri Aishah Ghani (KPTAG), creating a lively and energetic atmosphere as participants took part in the colourful annual event promoting healthy and active lifestyles among university students.
The flag-off ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, together with the Dean of FKTK, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Firdaus Omar, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Head of Department representatives, and the FKTK student executive committee.
Also present was the Principal of KPTAG, Dr. Alida Abdullah, who joined in supporting and enlivening the programme.
The success of Splash Run 3.0 reflects the strong commitment of FKTK students in organising impactful student activities that encourage wellness, teamwork, and campus engagement beyond the classroom environment.
FKTK extends its appreciation to all sponsors and supporting parties, including MPKK KPTAG, the UniMAP Health Centre, Auxiliary Police, and the Fire and Rescue Department, for their valuable contributions towards ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme.

The Promotion Team from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), actively engaged with prospective students during the Career Week Session January–June 2026 held at KKTM Lenggong.
Throughout the programme, the team operated an interactive promotional booth and conducted briefing sessions to introduce the various academic programmes and study opportunities offered by FKTK and UniMAP.
The engagement provided early exposure to students regarding higher education pathways, particularly in engineering and technology fields, while offering valuable insights into academic and career prospects available at UniMAP.
Held at Dewan Camelia, TVETMARA Lenggong, the programme received encouraging participation and positive responses from students interested in pursuing their studies at higher education institutions.
FKTK extends its appreciation to the organisers for the invitation and warm hospitality throughout the programme. Such initiatives reflect the faculty’s continuous commitment to strengthening academic outreach and attracting future talents to UniMAP.
Cendawan Innovation Programme Attracts Nationwide Participants for Hands On Food Technology Exposure

A total of 35 participants from across Malaysia joined an engaging knowledge sharing and hands on programme focused on mushroom based food innovation. The diverse group included mushroom entrepreneurs, housewives, government officers, food based industry representatives, and students aged between 23 and 69 years old, with participants travelling from Sabah, Johor, Pahang, Seremban, Selangor, Kedah, Perlis, and Terengganu. The programme featured a comprehensive introduction to basic knowledge of mushroom based food processing, highlighting its potential as a sustainable and functional food source.
Participants were actively involved in practical sessions producing a variety of mushroom based products including mushroom flour, pekasam cendawan, mushroom sausages, keropok lekor cendawan, keropok kering cendawan, mushroom soup, and sambal cendawan. A key highlight of the programme was the introduction to retort technology, an advanced food preservation method used to extend shelf life while maintaining food quality and safety, demonstrating its importance in supporting commercialisation and reducing food waste.
The programme was conducted by expert speakers Dr. Noor Shazliana Aizee Abidin, Miss Roshita Ibrahim, and Mr. Mohd Hishamuddin Che Amat, who provided valuable insights and hands on guidance throughout the session. This initiative reflects the growing interest in mushroom based food innovation and strengthens efforts towards sustainable food technology development while encouraging knowledge transfer across different communities and industries.
