The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK) kickstarted the new semester with a heartwarming "Coffee Time" event on 14 October 2024. Held at three different locations within FKTK, the event welcomed students and staff to enjoy breakfast and coffee while reconnecting with one another after the semester break.
This initiative was open to all FKTK students, fostering a sense of community and inclusion. It also offered a great opportunity for students and staff to catch up, strengthen friendships, and exchange hopes for the new academic term.
The message of the day, “Good luck to all students and staff. Together we are strong. This is FKTK’s family,” echoed throughout the event, reflecting the spirit of unity and mutual support within the faculty.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) proudly welcomed 148 new students into the Bachelor's Degree program for the 2024/2025 academic year. The registration and welcoming event took place at UniMAP’s Pauh Putra campus, where the incoming students were introduced to their new academic environment and the support systems available within the faculty.
The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to become familiar with the executive committee of FKTK, who shared valuable insights about the faculty’s mission, vision, and the educational journey ahead. In addition to meeting the faculty’s leadership, students were also introduced to their Rakan Pendamping Siswa (RPS), peer mentors who will guide and support them throughout their academic journey at UniMAP.
The Dean of FKTK, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Firdaus Omar, delivered a motivating welcome speech, encouraging the new students to make the most of the opportunities and resources available at the faculty. He highlighted the importance of engaging with both academic and extracurricular activities to ensure a well-rounded and enriching university experience.
The event marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for these new students, as they embark on their journey toward becoming skilled professionals in the field of chemical engineering. The faculty is confident that this new cohort will continue FKTK’s tradition of academic excellence and contribute positively to both the university and the wider community.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) recently held a special event titled Meet & Greet with Dr. Fir to mark the appointment of the new Executive Committee (Exco) members for the 2024-2026 term. The event, held at UniMAP’s Pauh Putra campus, also recognized the outgoing Exco members of 2022-2024.
During the ceremony, the outgoing Exco members were honored with appreciation letters in recognition of their contributions over the past term. The event also featured the formal "Nota Serah Tugas" or handover notes between the outgoing and incoming Exco members, symbolizing a smooth transition of responsibilities and leadership. This crucial step ensures continuity in the progress and initiatives spearheaded by the Exco.
Additionally, the Dean of FKTK, Prof. Madya Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Firdaus Omar, conducted a review of the faculty's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as of 30 September 2024. He highlighted the current achievements and emphasized areas of focus for the upcoming term, motivating the new leadership team to continue striving for excellence.
As part of the event, appointment letters were also distributed to the new heads of Special Interest Groups (SIG), the lab managers, and the newly elected FKTK Staff Club President.
The Meet & Greet with Dr. Fir was not only a symbolic ceremony for the handover of responsibilities but also a platform for the faculty members to align with the new leadership and the strategic goals set for the future.

A fruitful two-way discussion took place between the management of Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Jitra and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), aimed at exploring potential collaborative opportunities.
The meeting highlighted key areas for cooperation, including the utilization of advanced equipment for teaching and learning purposes, certification of competency programs, the sharing of expertise between lecturers, and research collaboration between both institutions.
Both parties expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities, recognizing the mutual benefits that such collaborations could bring in enhancing the quality of education, training, and research output for both students and faculty members.
The faculty looks forward to developing a strong working relationship with ILP Jitra to further contribute to the advancement of knowledge and industry-relevant skills in engineering and technology.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) hosted a highly informative seminar titled "Engineering Against Corrosion: Materials Design and Integrity Monitoring in Industrial Applications" on September 5, 2024. The seminar took place at the FKTK Taman Muhibbah, bringing together experts and participants from various fields to discuss key challenges and innovations in corrosion engineering.
The event featured distinguished speakers who shared their expertise and insights on the critical issue of corrosion in industrial applications:
1. Prof. Dr. Sammy Lap Ip Chan, a renowned Professor from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at National Central University, Taiwan, and Honorary Professor at the School of Materials Science & Engineering, UNSW Sydney, Australia.
2. Ku Adri Azhan Ku Mohamad, a Staff Engineer specializing in Corrosion at Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Kedah Sdn. Bhd.
3. Junaidi Che Halim, a Staff Engineer focusing on Inspection at Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Kedah Sdn. Bhd.
The seminar was well-received by the attendees, who included students, faculty members, and industry professionals. The engaging presentations and interactive Q&A sessions provided a platform for meaningful discussions on how to tackle corrosion effectively in various industrial contexts.
Congratulations to Dr. Nur Farhana Hayazi and the organizing team for executing a successful and impactful seminar.
