Students from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), delivered an outstanding performance at the 17th Malaysian Chem-E-Car 2026, competing against 36 teams from local and international universities, including participants from Indonesia and India.
Represented by four teams, FKTK showcased strong innovation, technical capability, and teamwork in one of the most challenging chemical engineering competitions, where participants design and build chemically powered cars to complete specific tasks with high precision.
Among the highlights, Team Epsilon achieved an impressive 3rd Place in Car Performance and 7th Place in Poster Presentation, bringing home a cash prize of RM1000. The team comprised Venessa Sharon Hiew, Rifqah Syafinaz binti Rizal Shihanaz, Ho Zhi Yan, and Tan Yang Min, under the guidance of Dr. Lee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akmal, Mr. Mohamad Zaim, and Dr. Faiq.
Meanwhile, Team Dragon secured 9th Place in Car Performance, earning a consolation prize of RM200. The team members included Wong Zhi Ying, Cheong Jia Hui, Hng Wei Ren, and Lim Jia Sien, supervised by Dr Lee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sam, Ts. Muhammad Izzat, and Ir. Nabil.
The achievement reflects the students’ dedication, creativity, and ability to apply engineering knowledge in a competitive and practical setting. Their success also highlights FKTK’s continuous commitment to nurturing innovative and globally competitive graduates.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), continues to strengthen student development through the successful organisation of the Campuspreneur Programme, led by the FKTK Student Association.
The programme provided students with a valuable platform to explore entrepreneurship by engaging directly in business activities, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in managing products, marketing strategies, and customer interactions.
Through this initiative, students were able to develop essential entrepreneurial skills, including creativity, communication, and problem-solving, while gaining exposure to the realities of running a business.
The Campuspreneur Programme reflects FKTK’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded graduates who are not only technically competent but also equipped with entrepreneurial mindset and adaptability to thrive in today’s dynamic economic landscape.

Students from the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Industrial Chemical Process) programme at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), recently gained valuable real-world exposure through a series of industrial visits to UMW Lubetech and Top Glove.
The visits provided students with first-hand insights into industrial operations, allowing them to observe how chemical engineering principles are applied in real manufacturing environments.
At UMW Lubetech, students were exposed to the production and management of high-performance lubricants, gaining a deeper understanding of process systems, quality control, and the integration of advanced technologies in lubricant manufacturing.
Meanwhile, the visit to Top Glove offered students a comprehensive view of large-scale glove manufacturing and polymer processing, highlighting industry practices within one of the world’s leading glove producers.
Through both visits, students were able to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, enhancing their understanding of industrial processes and preparing them for future careers in the chemical and process industries.
The students were accompanied by FKTK lecturers, Dr. Siti Kartini, Dr. Nik Muhammad Azhar, Dr. Mohd Asraf, and Miss Azlinda, who guided and supported the learning experience throughout the programme.
FKTK extends its sincere appreciation to the management and staff of both organisations for their warm hospitality and valuable knowledge sharing. The Student Association of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), successfully carried out the MySaveFood Programme at Bazar Ramadan Arau in collaboration with SWCorp Negeri Perlis, Majlis Perbandaran Kangar, and Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia Negeri Perlis.
Through this initiative, surplus food and beverages that were still safe and suitable for consumption were identified and collected for redistribution to those in need. A total of 129.2kg of surplus items were successfully rescued during the programme, comprising 30.5kg of food and 98.7kg of beverages.
All collected items were distributed to students at Tan Sri Aishah Ghani Residential College, Wang Ulu, UniMAP, ensuring that the surplus reached beneficiaries within the university community.
Beyond food redistribution, the programme also raised awareness among bazaar traders and visitors on the importance of reducing food waste and embracing responsible consumption practices, particularly during the Ramadan season.
This initiative reflects FKTK’s continuous commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and environmental responsibility, in line with the faculty’s aspiration to cultivate socially conscious and environmentally responsible graduates.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology (FKTK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), welcomed a visit from the Vice Chancellor, Dato' Prof. Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli, in conjunction with the ongoing laboratory equipment upgrading initiative aimed at enhancing the faculty’s teaching and research environment.
The visit highlighted UniMAP’s commitment to strengthening academic infrastructure through the replacement of obsolete equipment and the introduction of modern laboratory facilities. Among the upgraded assets are advanced analytical instruments and an ultra-low temperature –80°C freezer to support research and sample preservation activities, particularly in Chemical and Bioprocess programmes.
The improved facilities are expected to provide students with more accurate, safe, and industry-aligned laboratory training, further supporting Final Year Project implementation and research activities.
This initiative reflects UniMAP’s continuous investment in quality academic delivery and reinforces FKTK’s role in producing competent, practice-ready graduates equipped for industry and research excellence.
